My friend Lisa Belcher is the talented filmmaker behind 2018’s award-winning short film Guest of Honor. In 2019, she put a team together to shoot a western comedy called Javelina Run. Here’s the trailer.

Westerns have a certain look and tone to them that might seem antiquated in today’s cinema landscape, where superhero movies have taken their place as the bastion of American mythology. There is still a timeless power and beauty to the iconography of the western — the cowboy, the outlaw, the damsel in distress — and filmmakers Lisa Belcher, Alex Walker and Aaron G. Hale bring a twenty-first century spin to the formula in their new short, Javelina Run.

I was lucky enough to spend a day on set with this incredible team, and along with photographer George Mccormack, we got some fun footage for a couple “behind the scenes” shorts.

I really love this movie and I have the greatest respect for the people behind it, on both sides of the camera. What a talented bunch!

Check out Lisa’s work at Jumprock Pictures. Because if this is what 2019 looked like, I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in 2020.
